        So you want to have a custom design home ? The first thing is you must figure out what you need. You will need to know what is your budget. It is wise to make a list of what you want. The design profession call this list, " Desgin Brief". Your desgin brief can be just a scratched piece of paper, or it can be as long as 100 page doduments with complicated blueprint.

         You want your design brief to be completed as much as possible. It will help making your life easier later on. Furthermore, it will help your designer to understand you better. They will know what you want. Don't leave them in the dark. Otherwise, you will probably end up in disappointment.

           A good design brief does not mean a completed plan. That's not your job. it is the designer job. A design brief is only a primary plan. After all you are not an arhitect or engineer. Simple sketches are good enough to help them understand you better. Just let them know what types of room, room sizes, spaces that you want. Even if sometime it may turn out to be a wish list, it is o.k. They may be able to hlep your wish come true.
